  • Today, at the VRC, we organized our year-end Potluck lunch and Bake Off contest. It's an annual tradition that brings food from all over the world and exceptional baking talent to a variety of baked delicacies. I did not participate in the BakeOff because I have no baking talent, nor did I have time to cook something for the potluck. But since we were all invited, I joined, and all the food and desserts were excellent.

  • Yesterday, we formally celebrated Elsa's eighth birthday with her friends from school and others. This year, I took the lead in organizing her party, and everything went really well - as per my standards. But I disappointed Elsa by giving the prize for her win in the games to her friend. We organized a YouTube-themed party as she has a small YouTube channel called Elsatastic. And we planned some trick shots and challenge-type activities for the kids. In the very first bottle flip challenge, Elsa flipped 36 times, and her friend flipped 30 times. I saw that all the kids were disappointed, so I called for another round between her and her friend. In the second round, her friend won with a narrow margin. At that time, Elsa took it well and did not complain about her friend winning, but later at home she said, "I did not do right: she had won by a clear margin, and I should have given the prize to her, not her friend." Elsa did win an award in another game. So, now I have to make up for my mistake and take her to Target tonight so she can buy anything she wants from the toys section. Even though I planned everything carefully and worked hard to ensure that everything went well. I managed to mess one thing up that made my baby girl sad. It wasn't my intention, but at that moment, I thought about the happiness of all the other kids rather than Elsa's, which hampered my decision. We were the hosts, and Elsa was the guest of honor; it was supposed to be her special day. I guess that's what is called being a dad. We are prone to messing things up regardless of how hard we try not to.

  • It's my baby's birthday today. I can't believe she is 8 years old now. Time flies; I feel like she was born just yesterday. I remember holding her for the first time in my arms, and she looked right at me. I had no clue what to do, I just became a father with no idea or confidence if I would be able to handle the responsibility, or know how to raise a child. I still don't know, and every day I think I am messing things up. But it's God's grace that both my kids are doing well, and we are learning to parent as they grow. I hope once they are old enough to reflect on our parenting, we will score some decent points. But today it's my baby's birthdaaayyy. Happy Birthday, Elsa. God bless you, and I wish you all happiness and success in life. Dream big, ask questions, and challenge the norms! (of course, outside the house) 😃

  • After testing this journaling system for the past two days, I have now released it as a standalone Static Site Generator system that anyone can use. I named it DriftNotes: A lightweight journaling engine for thoughts that drift between tweets and blogs. This is exciting, as it will be my first non-scientific software or tool that I have created and might appeal to a general audience. Here is the link to the GitHub repository https://github.com/rohitfarmer/driftnotes.
